Dances are held on the Second Sunday of the Month, 6-10pm
at The Imperial Dance Club in Redwood City, CA

Our dances feature a multitude of fun!
The DJ music mix is primarily west coast swing and also contains some
hustle, night club two step, country two step, waltz, and latin
as we accomodate the dancers in attendance.
Refreshments included.

*** We also show a variety of photos and video at the Sunday Dance***

PLUS ... Check out our new "Video Share & Exchange" Program. (launched 2/7/10)
The videos on the table are for everyone to take, exchange or contribute videos
for the dance community to share. There is no fee ... just the intention to share the
love of dance and to have the opportunity to view dancing at past events.
Thank you to all that contributed videos to begin this "Share/Exchange" option.

-an email from one of the 2009 attendees-
Hi Michelle,
I just wanted to let you know how much fun last night was. The best part was
when you let the new dancers dance with the veteran dancers. Oh my God,
I got to dance with dancers that I never would have believed I could dance
with in a million years!!!!!!!!! I even danced with the one that won the Jack
and Jill contest!!!!!!! Can you believe it?????

Wow, I'm still on a high. People always say to me, "you are really lucky
that you get to dance"!!! Yes, we are lucky but not every night is a good
dance night. But I will tell you, when it's good, it's really good so you just
dance until the next one comes. Last night was one of the really, really
good ones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks, for that.

[You just never know how much the simple kindness of a dance can touch someone]

JOHN DUFFY - Backround & History

John was born June 3, 1931 in Dundalk, Ireland (just outside of Dublin). He immigrated to Canada in the 1950's and then to San Francisco in the 1960's. John was always into music. After being in San Francisco a short while, he got involved in the local music scene by becoming a singer & bandleader. In the early 1970's John’s musical interests expanded into dancing with swing, ballroom, and latin ... He loved all the dances!

John was a top salesman in the carpet industry and spent most of his free time dancing, competing, judging, emceeing, and just being friendly to everyone. John was truly blessed with a gift … and he was extremely willing to share that gift with anyone that was interested. He cultivated many dancers that went on to become top competitors, teachers, judges and those that would simply possess that same passion he had for dancing. John mastered all the dances developing a smooth and effortless style and won many contests. He possessed total and complete joy for this activity.

One of John’s visions was to bring all of the dance forms together onto one floor to share and exchange the joy of dancing. In 1989 Michelle Kinkaid & John started the 2nd Sunday Swing Dance. Sadly, John passed away only 3 months after the start of this dance. He would be pleased to know that his vision has become a reality.

Event Expanded in 2003
In 2003, for it's 15th year, this tribute event was expanded to be not only a memorial to John Duffy but to include Frank Manion and all local San Francisco Bay Area dancers that had made a significant contribution to the dance. (see photo boards on display at this special dance)
